EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE (second part continued)

A total of twelve strategically-located test sites were identified within the watershed (see Test Site Map). Seven were chosen along the stream reaches that ultimately feed into Martin Lake (site #’s 1 and 3 along the smaller southern headwaters tributary; site #’s 4-8 along the larger northern headwaters tributary). Two test sites near Martin Lake were selected: one at the mouth of the main tributary to the lake (site #12), at which both chemical and biological measurements were made; one at the mouth of a minor tributary to the lake on its south shore (site #13), where only chemical measurements were taken. Two test sites were chosen along the outflow emerging from under the dam which created Martin Lake: one just below a weir at the base of the dam that temporarily ponds the outflow (site #15), where chemical measurements only were made; one about 10 meters below the weir (site #16), at which both chemical and biological measurements were taken. One test site was marked with a buoy around the center of Martin Lake itself, and a device for collecting samples from depths down to 60 cm at 10 cm intervals was utilized there.
