I love to teach! I entered this phenomenal profession in 1993 after working 18 years for an electric utility. One never knows what type of motivation I will use to catch my students' attention!
My areas of specialty are Earth Science and Advanced Placement Environmental Science. I am one of the very few teachers in New York City who have taught the APES course from its inception in 1998. I am an advocate of environmental education in the city schools and take an active part in professional organizations that attempt to infuse it into the curriculum. I am also an Earth Science Mentor for New York State representing the Queens High School Superintency. I am an available resource for teachers with questions relating to Earth Science. |
I am assistant principal for Science at Grover Cleveland High School. In this position, I am the department chair for a staff of 26 science teachers and two laboratory specialists. I also get to teach 10 periods a week -- the REAL reason I'm in this profession.
I have traveled extensively through 40 of the continental U.S.- by rail or auto. I have taken part in three Earthwatch Expeditions around North America - from Kentucky to Idaho to Churchill Manitoba.
I am an Assistant District Commissioner in Queens Council of the Boy Scouts of America. I am a vigil honor member of the Order of the Arrow and a former adviser of Suanhacky Lodge #49. |
Educationally, I hold a BS degree from York College CUNY in Geology; an MBA from Baruch College CUNY in Management; an MSEd in Earth Science Education from Queens College CUNY and have completed 24 additional credits in School Administration from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. I have also taken various courses in Environmental Technology from New York Institute of Technology, College of Staten Island and other assorted schools.
A teacher must continue to do personal staff development and I encourage all other teachers to do so as well. Personally, I have been a participant in the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship at Princeton University, the Project Atmosphere program in Kansas City MO and attended two Advanced Placement Institutes in Cooperstown NY and Austin Texas. |

Queens College is in the forefront of public New York City colleges addressing the lithospheric and hydrologic portions of Environmental Science. They also have a well-planned teacher education program in the geosciences. |
There is now a 'School of Earth and Environmental Sciences'. At the Queens College site, go to 'Academic Departments' and then to the SEES.

And for something different, try Unitarian Universalism. UU is a liberal religion born of Jewish and Christian faiths. We keep our minds open to the religious questions people have struggled with in all times and places. |
