I have been living in DC since I graduated from University of California, Davis (Biology 89). After two years of volunteering in the inner city (Jesuit Volunteer Corps), I began my career as a teacher. Since that time I have taught in numerous schools from an inner city Catholic school to independent suburban institutions. I also earned my Masters in Education from Loyola College in Baltimore, MD. Currently I am teaching at The Woods Academy, an independent school in the Washington, DC area. Since it is a small school, I am the Upper School science teacher as well as the Science Curriculum Coordinator. This has allowed me to implement inquiry-based learning across all grade levels. My interest in the environment and inquiry, hands-on learning brought me to the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation. Earlier this year a math colleague and I were selected as GTE GIFT (Growth Initiatives for Teachers) fellows to conduct a student - led study of our schools electricity output and find ways to increase efficiency. In my spare time I enjoy making pottery, reading, working out and playing games of all kinds! For other grant and fellowship opportunities, check out NSTA and ASCD. |
