Ie M. Lim

Biographical Information

I have been teaching at the same school for six years now. I teach 7th grade Social Studies and Science.  Originally, I planned on becoming a lawyer but plans changed after leaving D.C. as an intern and going to NY for a week to visit my cousin.  It was there that he inspired me to become a teacher. Each day I would read to him, take him to school and participate in his school activities, which really changed me. I have been blessed with a wonderful family.  My dad (who plays golf with me), mom and my brother – Mark are close knit. In my pastime, I love to travel. I have been to countries like Japan, Malaysia, Singapore (I’m originally from here), Thailand, Nepal, Mexico, China and Canada.  I even lived in Mexico for 4 months as a missionary. I can still speak a bit of Spanish if given the opportunity.  So here’s a bit about me!

Michael J. Lowry

Biographical Information

Michael is still a “young pup” in the profession.  He is amazed by how all his colleagues know how long they’ve been in the classroom. He still has no idea – mostly because he is having too much fun!  Teaching and learning is challenging work but enormously rewarding.  He has studied at Zen temples, hiked through the Kiff gardens of Morocco and made libations at Olympia. A wise man once said to him “follow your bliss” and he’s been at it ever since.

Terry A. Mansfield

Biographical Information

My home in Portage County, Ohio is located on the western edge of the glaciated Allegheny Plateau.  As a result, the area features a variety of relic wetlands that contain rare and unique flora and fauna. These unusual ecosystems were the focus of much study during my graduate school years at Kent State University and continue to inspire me for my Biology and Environmental Biology classes at Laurel School.

Looking forward to my 14th year of teaching High School Biology, I have spent the last two at Laurel, an independent Girls Scout in suburban Cleveland, Ohio.  At Laurel, I am the faculty advisor for the Ecology Club and am a member of the Respect for Difference Committee. When time and finances permit, I enjoy visiting friends in the Waipio Valley on the Big Island of Hawaii.

Jenifer E. McMurray

Biographical Information

My parents are both teachers, so I (of course) vowed never to teach. Two weeks before graduating Grove City College, I received my final rejection letter for Physical Therapy School. It was only then that I realized I wanted to teach.  I applied and was accepted into a Masters of Arts in Teaching program at Union College. It turned out being the best default decision I’ve ever made! I’ve been teaching 9th and 10th grade Biology for 7 years.  I started with Concepts and Inclusion Bio, and now I teach Honors and Academic Bio.  My favorite part is teaching DNA and Genetics.  I even made an “accu-art” dye for DNA that the company now produces.  On a personal note, Jason and I have been married for 61/2 years.  Jason works in the computer field and we enjoy golfing and baseball games in our free time.

Rosemary Melinek

Biographical Information

I have been teaching for 5 ½ years.  Before that I worked in research, most recently on the neurobiology of the Leech.

Because of my interest in Outreach programs and my involvement in teaching, I became more and more interested in education and a teaching career.

This year I have a wonderful teaching schedule – AP Biology, Anatomy, and Physiology. I have also taught Biology, Chemistry, and Health careers, but I most enjoy teaching AP Biology to juniors and seniors.

Phillip J. Moore

Biographical Information

I have been teaching for 8 years.  I have enjoyed the personal challenge of being a life long learner so that I can be a better teacher. I have enjoyed the enthusiasm of the kids. They have kept me feeling young. I have also enjoyed the knowledge that I have tried to be a force of positive change in the world by my chosen profession.

I try to stay active outside of school life. I have done a lot of stonewall building and carpentry work as summer time work. My wife and I enjoy hiking and being outdoors as often as possible in the summer.  We like to go to Prospect Harbor in Maine to visit the family.
