The Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation is offering a free, two week program for science teachers,

“Biodiversity and Biocomplexity”.

Participants will meet at the American Museum of Natural History and Pace University and will work with researchers and educators, engaging in inquiry and developing active-learning opportunities for students. This institute will be aligned with New York state standards and National Science Education Standards. Participants may earn two graduate credits at reduced tuition rates upon successful completion of the institute.

Who should apply: The institute is open to science teachers grades 6-12 in and around New York City. Applicants must be assured of a science teaching position in 2002-2003. Past participants of the New York City Commuter Institute are not eligible.

Stipend: $600

Selection: Demonstrated commitment to student learning, the desire to improve one’s teaching, the ability to work with diverse groups (both other teachers and students), and leadership potential are criteria for selection. In addition, the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation is committed to selecting a diverse group of participants that reflect urban teaching: ethnicity, type of school, and student population served. There are 15 slots available. Applicants are accepted until June 17, 2002.
