- Simulate a DNA helicase enzyme breaking the hydrogen bonds between the
two student strands.
- Then, have the students with green construction papers that will
complement the sequence CTA CAAT CAAT CAAT CAAT TCG arrange themselves as a
group in their complementary nascent strand. Test to see if they arrange
themselves in the 5’ to 3’ direction.
- Similarly have the remaining students with green construction papers form
their complementary nascent strand in a 5’ to 3’ direction. At this point, you
can discuss the difference between semi-conservative and conservative
replication.
