1. Simulate a DNA helicase enzyme breaking the hydrogen bonds between the two student strands.
2. Then, have the students with green construction papers that will complement the sequence CTA CAAT CAAT CAAT CAAT TCG arrange themselves as a group in their complementary nascent strand.  Test to see if they arrange themselves in the 5’ to 3’ direction.
3. Similarly have the remaining students with green construction papers form their complementary nascent strand in a 5’ to 3’ direction.  At this point, you can discuss the difference between semi-conservative and conservative replication.
