The content of the course will focus on Comparative Genomics and will explore the DNA learning experience; gene therapy; ethical decision-making; and the critical role of technology in this area of science. A complete program syllabus will be available in the early Spring.

The Biology summer Institute is especially designed to provide teachers with a solid grounding in field and laboratory research techniques, effective inquiry approaches for teaching scientific concepts, performance activities and assessment, scientific resources and networking. Participants will engage in exploration and learning through:

  • large-group investigative activities,
  • small-group mentoring with professors and notable scientists from non-traditional educational centers (museums, science centers, etc.),
  • field trips and lectures,
  • research projects in various fields of interest,
  • the construction of conceptual models, and
  • designing a collaborative web page
