History

Since the early 1960s the scientific community has researched a problem that has possibly already caused an overall warming of the earth.  A simple description
of the "Greenhouse Effect" can liken the earth to a car outside on a sunny day. As the sun's rays penetrate the glass of the car and are absorbed into it's outer shell, the air inside becomes heated. To go a bit further with reference to the earth, short wavelengths from the sun are able to penetrate the earth's atmosphere. As they are reflected and retransmitted from the earth's surface as long wave radiation, they do not escape the atmosphere as well, and retransmits back toward the earth, keeping it
warm. This greenhouse effect has maintained temperatures suitable for life for billions of years.

Enter the problem of increasing concentrations of C02 in the atmosphere. C02 increases the ability of the atmosphere to retain heat. The term "Global Warming" now encompasses two ideological camps, those who attribute the warming to rising atmospheric C02 levels and those who relate this statistical trend to other factors.
