Web
Quest References Web quest is a teaching strategy
developed by Bernie
Dodge at San Diego State University. There are extensive numbers
of websites that provide examples and directions on construction
this web-based inquiry teaching strategy for all grades and subject
areas. Here are just a few of these links.
This article discusses the
structure of WebQuests and how to design them to be an
effective lesson. There is an extensive bibliography and links
at the end of the article.
The author describes the
critical features that make a WebQuest "an
inquiry-oriented activity in which some or all of the
information that learners interact with comes from resources
on the internet..."
I (bha) have found that
even the greatest lesson will fail to teach the students what
I wanted them to learn. Constructivism offers at least an
explanation of why students may take home a different message
then we intended. This webpage will provide links to the
learning theory behind WebQuests.
A colleague of Bernie
Dodge, Tom March describes various strategies to implement a
WebQuest.
Collaborative
Learning References Collaborative (cooperative)
learning is built into our WebQuest. We used the
jigsawing strategy to build interdependence between the
students on the team.
An introduction to
cooperative learning from two of the leaders of this
teaching strategy. This site offers links to overview of the
method, research, and alternate cooperative learning
strategies.
