Before determining the pH of your samples, it is suggested that you read the following link:
Chemical analysis of pH
Materials needed: Distilled water, beakers, glass rods, pH meter probe or pH paper
1. Mix 10 grams air-dried soil sample with 10ml of dH2O.
2. Let stand for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally with a glass rod.
3. Calibrate the pH meter probe with the buffering solution provided.
4. Insert glass electrode probe on the supernatant liquid only and log the reading.
5. Return the pH meter probe to the calibrating buffer solution.
6. Rinse all glassware and place on the drying surface.
7. Repeat for all your samples.
Or (if you do not have a pH meter)
1. Measure 10 grams of soil.
2. Add 10 ml of distilled water and swirl.
3. Let soil and water stand 20 minutes.
4. Measure soil pH using the pH paper.
