New Jersey and its Counties

Abstract
An investigation utilizing Geographic Information System (GIS) technology was employed to site a 300 unit development on 500 acres of land in the Barnegat Bay watershed located in Ocean County New Jersey using environmental design and planning principles.  Participants learned how to use ArcView software to scientifically locate possible building sites using a variety of environmental and cultural criteria.  The study identified nine possible sites and maps were created to analyze these sites.  The building site chosen was hillier than expected indicating that important criteria not selected in the ArcView study may have important ramifications on land use planning.
