Abstract: Mercury is a naturally occurring element in the earth.  It is released into the environment by way of many industrial processes; such as mining, trash incineration, paper manufacturing, and the burning of fossil fuels.  Mercury emissions are transported globally by the wind and deposited on soil and water.  From there, they enter the food web.

This project was to determine the concentration of Mercury in the muscle tissue of fish from 3 Maryland lakes.  Using this data, we determined if a fishing advisory should be released for those lakes.  Then, we developed a lesson in the form of a webquest that would walk students through the same process.
