Goals: The field trip will consist of visiting and studying a salt marsh, beach community and a maritime forest in Sandy Hook. Sandy Hook is an integral part of Gateway National Recreation Area and part of the United States National Park Service. This visit will serve to introduce the National Park System as a valuable resource for teaching science and environmental issues in our schools. The integration of the many national parks as learning centers through their activities and ecosystems into our school curriculum will provide a important new dimension in achieving goals of upgrading the level of science for our teachers and for our students and their families.
