WSCC Washington School Community Coalition. Liaison with Washington & Jefferson College and the Biology Department. Completed the Governor’s Institute for Physical Science for Educators in summer of 1999 where I have and continue to implement Inquiry and the Pennsylvania Standards for Science and Technology.

Biographical Information

I received my Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education at California University of Pennsylvania in 1983. I received a Master of Education degree in 1990.

I taught at Pinecrest Elementary in Van Nuys, California for four years grades K & 3. I currently teach in Pennsylvania Life, Earth, Physical, and Environmental Science and Learning Support classes at Washington High School in Washington, PA. Washington High School is located 45 miles South of Pittsburgh, PA. Our school is a moderate school district with approximately 2,000 students, 540 of which attend our high school. Our district was awarded the President’s Blue Ribbon for Excellence in 1997. I also edited, designed and comprised the Treasure Trove, a student Poetry Book for three years. I also directed and co-coordinated NDAC (Neighborhood Drug Awareness Corps.) plays for students K-5 in drug and alcohol prevention.

I received a volunteer award from The United Way for my involvement for the past ten years with NDAC. I also co-coordinated and directed the Tom Sawyer Summer Learning Camp for grades K-8.

 In 1998 I was selected to the HHMI Backyard Biology program for teachers.  I have also presented at the Triple “E” seminar: Energy, Economics, and Environment in 1998 to a group of county public and private school teachers. I have worked in the Educator In The Workplace program at NETL National Energy Technology Laboratory for the past three summers developing lesson plans for teachers of the emerging technologies and research in environmental management and remediation and alternative fuel sources for the Department of Energy. www.fetc.doe.gov/coolscience

In my spare time I Sponsor the Wash High Cheerleaders and

co-sponsor the Ski Club.

*   Personal interests include: horseback riding, skiing, boating,

       camping, mountain bike riding, painting, and reading.
