Current Projects

  Project GIVE

This project is an interactive project in education.  Students researched single events on a timeline in astronomy and were responsible for including the date of the event, the title, a short narrative about the event, and a graphic that represents the event.  These events were converted and placed on the web using a thumbnail sketch.  Viewers can click on the thumbnail sketch and be taken to the different events on the timeline.  This project was conducted in cooperation with the Wright Center for Science Education and can be located at http://www.tufts.edu/as/wright_center/fellows/kevin.

I’ll Raise You Ten:  Microscopic and Macroscopic Scaling Activities in the Classroom

The topic of scaling and powers of ten are often a difficult one to teach to students.  I have worked with two other teachers (Margaret Holzer of Chatham High School in Chatham, NJ; and Christyna Laubach of Lenox High School in Lenox, MA) in presenting several workshops dealing with activities that address this topic.  Additionally, an article on this topic has recently been selected for publication in The Science Teacher.
