I have been teaching Science since 1984. I have four sections of Science and one section of Language Arts. Our middle school has Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Grade classrooms. We are in our own separate building and rarely see the Elementary, Junior High , or High School students. I enjoy teaching this age group and have only taught Fifth Grade for one year.
I love to spend my summers attending workshops . Last year I attended the TRUE workshop in Gainesville, Florida at the University of Florida and I highly recommend it to everyone. It was a great learning experience and the weeks were filled with fun things to do. We had exciting lectures, interesting labs at the Shands Research Center, and educational field trips. The sharing sessions with some of the best teachers in the country sharing their best teaching practices offered hundreds of ideas that we took back and incorporated into our curriculum. The web site is http://www.cpet.ufl.edu and there is information about stipends and an application.
I attended the ICE Workshop (Institute for Chemical Education) at the University of Northern Colorado for four weeks in the summer of 1996 and 1997. I attended a two week summer workshop at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida in the summers of 1994 and 1995. We received an overall view of flight instruction and were even given private flying lessons in a small plane. I brought back many lesson plans that incorporate principles of flight into my science and math curriculum. During the summer of 1995 I was selected to attend a two-week NASA Workshop, NEWEST, which was held at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. This is a workshop for Middle School teachers that supplies you hundreds of field tested materials and lessons to teach space related topics to your students.
