A graduate of Caldwell College (for Women) with a B.A. degree in Biology, Mrs. Futej received an M. Ed from Immaculata College. A member of Phi Delta Kappa and a Woodrow Wilson Fellow (ESI 1999), she also serves on the Curriculum Committee for Secondary Science for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
Mrs. Futej has been teaching at BSHS for 11 years. While her first love is Biology, Mrs. Futej admits that her passion is teaching Environmental Science. "Environmental Science is wonderful because it brings together information from so many other sciences -- biology, ecology, geology, chemistry -- even physics! It really is a course in current events' science and problem solving. This is something we can all enjoy, and we all need to know, so we can make the world a better place -- not only for ourselves but for generations to come."
"The
open space concept of the county is a broad one encompassing rural ambiance,
water resource protection, wildlife habitat, and passive and active recreation;
numerous historical structures and areas are also found in the County.
These open spaces and the historical assistance of the County not only
contribute to our uniqueness, but they also make a desirable place to live
and to work."
Hunterdon
County, N.J.
Living
space and "sprawl" are a national concern; land use is an excellent study
topic for Environmental Science which can include GIS use, mapping, ecological
principles, local history and community concern. That was the ESI
99 project mentored by John Hasse of Rutgers University. For
more information, e-mail either address.
