As a child growing up in the woods of East Texas, I took advantage of the opportunity to investigate nature as much as possible. A few good teachers, a liberal education at the University of Texas at Austin, seven years of environmental work in industry, ten years in private business, and twelve in education and presto - a mission emerges with focus and direction. This mix of experience has produced a connection with reality which translates into meaningful lessons with standards based outcomes. I  return home to become Regional Science Specialist for the Texas Rural Systemic Initiative involving 80 rural counties in science, mathematics and technology education. The opportunity to impact 200,000 children is a challenge I enthusiastically accept. I find that every community possesses hidden assets on the landscape which can provide the context and community connection to advance systemic reform.
