Name: Curtis J. Varnell
Address: Paris High School, Paris AR. 72851
I was born in August of 1953 in Paris Hospital and have lived most of my life in and around the area. I am a graduate of Paris High School and have a bachelor’s degree with honors from AR. Tech University in 1976. I have a Masters degree in Social Studies from AR. Tech in 1982. I have taught at Paris Schools since graduating college. I have taught both science and social studies since graduating from college. I also drive a school bus and do other things around the school such as announce football games.
I have two sons, one is married and is a youth minister in St. Louis, and the other is in college. I also am helping to raise stepchildren. I enjoy sports of all sorts, especially softball and basketball, I also raise and train horses. My personal goals include writing a novel, obtaining a Doctorate Degree, and hang gliding off Mt. Magazine.
I have been the Teacher of the year in Logan County this year and won
a Who’s Who in American Education. I received an unsung Heroes award
this year for up to 10,000 dollars and the AARP continuing education award
for AR. I also went to Japan on a Fullbright Fellowship in 1997,
recieved a grant from FIRST STEP, STRIVE, and NASA Aerospace education.
One of my teaching comrades was overheard saying that he could understand
much about the quality of education in the U.S. if I could recieve all
of these awards. Good Point!
