Summary
-
How are plants affected by elevated CO2 and
warmer temperatures?
-
What are the differences in C3 and C4 plants?
-
Will C4 plants be as affected as C3 plants?
(C4 plants can stand high temperatures and can absorb CO2 more
efficiently than C3 plants.)
This site outlines an experiment that can be done
in the classroom by students inquiring about the effects of global warming.
Plants were grown in four different controlled environments:
-
Cold temperature (ours was at 18 degrees Centigrade)
with increased CO2
-
Cold temperature with regular air
-
Warm temperature (ours was 25 degrees Centigrade)
with increased CO2 and
-
Warm temperature with regular air.
Students should be encouraged to ask their
own questions and devise their own experimental setups.
