Journey to the Jungle!
An Experience in Inquiry Based Learing about Global Environmental Change
by Amy Biasucci

Bienvenidos!

This web page is a personal record of my experience in Costa Rica through the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation and the Organization for Tropical Studies. This expedition was funded by the National Science Foundation. Nothing I write will approach the sensations of wonder and the intellectual growth that I am experiencing in the tropical ecosystems. The only true way to capture what the rainforest and dry forest offer is to FEEL IT.

A Record of the Fabulous Field Studies and Crazy Critters of Costa Rica
Estacion Biologia La Selva
We caught several individuals of this bat species, Carollia brevicauda, using mist nets at La Selva Biological Research Station. To learn more about our project on fecal analysis and parasite load on bats, click here!

Night Swamping: This is beyond Hollywood. Nature is better than magic; and I was there.

Checking out creatures in the swamp "LA CANTERANA" at night. This is Agalychnis saltator.

And Now for a Short Bio...

I am a teacher at Cranford High School in Cranford, NJ.  I teach Environmental Science, Marine Science, and Biology and I am the advisor of Students for Environmental Action.   I studied Wildlife Management and Ecology at Cook College, Rutgers University.   I love to backpack and spend time studying critters in various ecosystems.  For the past few years I have been bike racing with my husband, Michael Novemsky, and our team, the Montclair Cyclists. Mikey and I have three beasties (beagles), Treble, Scout, and Flint, who demand our love and attention. Pura Vida!
