This is your friendly academic co-director...... I was interested in the
depth and range of issues you raised at the reflection session this afternoon,
and want to address at least a few of these. It is true that our program at
Rutgers feels fragmented because of the mentored projects, and you raise a
valid point in asking to have time to share what you learn in each group with
the rest of the participants. May I suggest that a great way to do that is by
working on the web
product, each group on their own "project report". You might want to share
some info verbally, but also try to share by putting information on the web-
page for your project. We can help you get started in this effort, but it's
your own critique of what each "project page" should have in it that will be
most valuable.
Another concern you had (and it seemed that there is a consensus on this) is
the
tight schedule we have, with little opportunity for extended sessions in the
computer labs, or with the mentors. I realize this is a drawback, and I'll
try to get a few more extended sessions in the computer lab, as well as asking
for more
computer support in the evening in the dorm..... The mentors are doing their
best to be available, as I'm sure you'll agree: my own group will have a
chance to see more of me in the next week or so, and I'll stilll be available
during the last week. Don't be shy about asking your fellow teachers for
help in some of these areas, since quite a few of you are very technology-
savy.
Lastly, I want to let you know that we are hearing your concerns, and that we
will
try our best to address these and fix the problems..... that can be fixed!
See you all in Princeton!
