Commonly used today
Conceived by James Ivory - 1822
Construction:
*two identical mercury-in-glass thermometers mounted
on a plate side by side
*bulb of one thermometer wrapped in a muslin sock
*soak muslin sock thermometer in distilled
water
*whirl both thermometers (aerate w/ fan) until wet-bulb
thermometer reading steadies
*temperature difference between the two thermometers
(wet bulb depression) is calibrated in terms of percent relative humidity
on a psychromatic table
