ATMOSPHERIC PHENOMENON AND AIR TEMPERATURE by Denise Peterson
INVESTIGATION E: AIR PRESSURE
OBJECTIVE: The students will demonstrate that air flows from a high pressure area to a low
pressure area (pressure gradient).
MATERIALS: 2 plastic bottles
scissors
food coloring
modeling clay
tape
plastic tube
hand drill and bit
water
PROCEDURE: 1. Drill a small hole near the bottom of each bottle (same position on each)
and then cut off the top of each bottle.
2. Seal the edges of bottles with tape.
3. Stick strips of tape at equal intervals on both bottles to make a rough scale.
4. Connect the 2 bottles by placing the ends of the plastic tube in the holes,
use modeling clay to seal the joints.
5. Fill one bottle with colored water to the level of the tube, and fill the other bottle
completely.
6. Observe.
