Activities

Water Vapor:  Cloud in a Bottle

Grade Level:  6-8
Summary:  Students will use a two liter bottle, some ice, and some hot water to investigate the water cycle.  They will create a cloud in a bottle and observe precipitation as the vapor condenses into droplets

Methane:  Landfill in a Bottle

Grade Level:  6-8
Summary:  Students will create a landfill in a two liter bottle by combining organic wastes, soil, and water.  After the organic material has had time to decompose the students will test the air in the bottle for methane

Carbon Dioxide:

1.  Creating Carbon Dioxide

Grade Level:  6-8
Summary: Students will use Bromothymol Blue solution to test the carbon dioxide in normal air and in the air they exhale.  Students will learn that animal respiration generates carbon dioxide.

2.  Plants and the Carbon Cycle

Grade Level:  6-8
Summary: Students will investigate the role plants play in the balance of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.  The air will be tested in a container with a plant and a control container.
