INTEC inquiry based net course for teachers that we mentioned this
morning:

You can email questions that are not answered in the brochure (available
in Rm. 110 if you didn't get one) to cynthia@concord.org
Cynthia tells me that you can get four graduate credits from Fitchburg
State College for a total of $230 and that otherwise the course is free
due to NSF funding.

Classes start in Sept ; to see a sample calendar you can go to:
www.concord.org/intec/cal/sept98 calendar.html

As a partipant in the netcourse, you will receive all of necessary
materials and software for free, including the CO2 measurement devise
(TERC air pump) and 20 of the CO2 msmt tubes that we demonstrated to
some of you at the end of our morning meeting ( you'll get 10 of the
diffusion type and 10 of the non-diffusion, grab sample type).

Several participants said they might want to build their own air pumps
to do co2 or ozone msmts in their outreach or TORCH workshops, so here
is some info on ordering.

Building your own "TERC air pumps" is a lot cheaper than buying the
official air pump, which we showed you in the lab and currently lists
for $420.

sampling tubes can be obtained from several places, one of which is
BGI Inc
58 Guinan Street
Waltham, MA 02154
phone 781 891 9380
fax 781 891 8151

We have a catalog in 110 that shows the variety of available sampling
tubes ( CO2 low, c02 mid range, CO2 high range, ozone, o2 etc)

Syringes:
Harvard Apparatus
84 October Hill Rd.
Holliston, MA 01746
508 893 8999

you need to order the 140 cc luer-lock type syringe.

Air line tubing: you can get this lots of places but here is an address
if you can't find it in your neighborhood:
Tropic Isle Aquarium
4 Pierce Street
Framingham, MA 01702
508 875 5303

T-valves and check valve:
also available from above aquarium store

For each pump you will need one syringe, about a foot of airline tubing,
one T valve, and one check valve ("duckbilled valve").

NB: the testing tubes are one use only but the pump can be used over and
over.

COST: Cynthia said she spent about $60 on tubing and valves and $115 on
syringes and was able to build 20 complete pumps for $175.
