Karen Shrader's group:
Q How do we know exactly what others have done if we haven't seen it
firsthand?
A Through the tech folks, we will get information to Rutgers and
Princeton about what each has accomplished so far. This will start
tomorrow.
Q Are we to disseminate the spirit of the institutes or more specific
activities?
A If you are talking about the 10- or 20-hour commitment, it is up to
you and depends on the needs of your school/ district. If you mean the
TORCH Institutes, they should be a condensed version of the 4-week
institute, but the instructional design/ agenda of the institute is up
to you and your imagination.
Q Inservice Commitment: When will we get more information about that?
A Information has been given to institute leaders. I will talk to the
Rutgers folks Friday morning and am happy to schedule meetings with the
other institutes if necessary.
Q Why do ESI and Bio have different commitments?
A The commitment was written into the ESI grant. I thought Bio ought to
do something similar, and am working them into it gradually.
Q Do time commitments include your prep time?
A No.
Q If you work in an independent school, how do you manage this easily?
A Do you mean it is too much time for too few people? Can you work with
public schools around you?
Q TORCH Online: Have you looked at existing models of online courses
(eg, National Teachers Education Network, Montana State University) for
ideas on how to structure this??
A Yes, we've looked at some but want more ideas of where to look and
what might work.
