The Pine Barrens in New Jersey
Welcome to the Pine Barrens in central New Jersey. These
photographs were taken around
Whiting, NJ on highway 539. This is a site that hasn't been
burned for years.
Another unburned site along highway 539.
This is a site that has burned within the last two years.
New growth is evident.
This is known as the pine plains. I was standing on the bumper
of a car looking across
the four foot high pines. This site is located on highway
72 (approx. mile marker 13).
This is a Pine Barren bog. It is a sand based bog.
Many carniverous plants were found
at this site, including two types of sundews and pitcher plants.
This is a cranberry bog. The bogs have been around this area
since the 1800's. This is one
of the main crops of the area.
