The Pine Barrens in New Jersey
Welcome to the Pine Barrens in central New Jersey.  These photographs were taken around
Whiting, NJ on highway 539.  This is a site that hasn't been burned for years.

Another unburned site along highway 539.
This is a site that has burned within the last two years.  New growth is evident.
This is known as the pine plains.  I was standing on the bumper of a car looking across
the four foot high pines.  This site is located on highway 72 (approx.  mile marker 13).
This is a Pine Barren bog.  It is a sand based bog.  Many carniverous plants were found
at this site, including two types of sundews and pitcher plants.
This is a cranberry bog.  The bogs have been around this area since the 1800's.  This is one
of the main crops of the area.
