This page is dedicated to the memory of BERT :-(   who gave his/her life in the lightning strike of Holder Hall during the ESI of 1997.  Bert resided in room 74 with roommates Lenny and Rick from Illinois.  They had become great friends and lived quite peacefully together.  Bert enjoyed the many pretzels his friends left in the fireplace every night.  In return Bert would entertain Rick and Lenny with his/her daily runs through the room.  This relationship was ended the night of the thunderstorm.    We assume that Bert was resting peacefully in the fireplace chimney when disaster struck.  Rick was reading in his room at Holder 74 when the lightning bolt struck.  "All I saw was a blue flash in the room and a bang at the same time.  It was terrible!" Rick reported.  The chimney of section 7 at Holder had been hit!  Everyone around at the time reported the same thing.   The bright blue flash with the concurrent bang of thunder.  Residents of section 7 were made to move that night but alas poor Bert was never seen again.  Pretzels have been left in hopes that Bert will return but nothing so far.  All search parties have been called off and Bert has been presumed no longer with us in this life.  Where ever Bert is we know that he/she is looking down on us and is proud of the way we have carried on since the incident.  So long friend and we hope there are pretzels where you now reside.  R.I.P.
