TEAM
#3 PROJECT PROPOSAL
Team #3 Hypothesis: Golf course grounds maintenance does not adversely
effect the nitrate concentrations of surrounding streams.
How to test hypothesis: Team #3 will check nitrate levels of streams
running through or along side golf courses. Sites to be chosen will be
in areas of stream before entering golf course and in areas downstream
from golf course. Team #3 has chosen one golf course near the Princeton
campus (Springdale Golf Club). This site will be tested for nitrates once
each day. For sake of economics of workshop each test day will consist
of one water sample being taken and one nitrate test being performed at
each site. These tests will be started sometime in the second week of the
institute and continue for two weeks. Collections will be time recorded
analysed with other collections. To further study this hypothesis Team
#3 has chosen two other streams that Team #3 will collect samples
from each day. These sites will help show the nitrate conditions
on surrounding areas of the golf course. All data collected
from study will be recorded on this web page and conclusions will be drawn.
Team #3 will also try to obtain the ground maintenance records of the golf
courses being studied to help in analysing the results obtained.
Materials for testing: Topographical maps of area, aerial photographs
of area, truck access, nalgene sample bottles, acid washing capabilities,
nitrate test kits.
