• Classes of Data = Point, Line, Area

• Scales of Measurement = Nominal, Ordinal, Interval

• Graphic Elements = Color, Shape, Size, Shade

• Data Manipulation = Actual vs. Derived

Only certain combinations of Class of Data, Scale of Measurement, Graphic Element and Data Manipulation work well together.
