What is GIS?
GIS is an acronym for Geographical Information Systems. This is a software package that allows commercial business, schools, students, city planners, Army Corps of Engineers, etc. to look at data within a spatial context. GIS uses maps and mapping data. The data is interpreted and conclusions drawn based on the data. Students can use GIS much like the scientific method is used in school.
