Welcome to our site! This site was developed by a research team of the Environmental Science Institute of the Woodrow Wilson Foundation under the guidance of Dr. Oscar Schofield, a biological oceanographer, and Dr. Yu Alice Gao, a molecular biologist, of Rutgers University. The research team included the following secondary school science educators: Madelyn Asperas (NY), Valerie Baker (CA), Alex Bodha (NY), Zoraida Colon(NY), Andre Clayman (NC), Shelly Crow (TX), David Duane (MA), and Dianne Mollica (VA).
This site summarizes the team research involving phytoplankton and ultraviolet light, and offers activities and experiments applicable to a secondary school classroom. The group participated in the Woodrow Wilson Environmental Science Institute at Rutgers which brought together50 teachers from across the U.S. to study the effects of Global Warming and Climate Change, and to develop curriculum materials appropriate to secondary school classrooms that are relevant to the topic.
