Re: ES Advisory and TORCH

The Advisory Committee meeting for the ES Institutes was held on November
1st. Leslie Giffen designed and facilitated an excellent meeting.
Everyone was impressed by how EDC's evaluation was right on target. We
focused on the future by carefully, but not judgmentally, describing
artifacts of the institute. Thanks to everyone who sent in a mini-case
study. We didn't actually use them because the projects were so rich in
information.
Paul Burchard's expertise made it possible to look closely at three fine
projects. The committee members' intellectual insights were impressive.
One of the most exciting things about the day for me was how impressed
they were with the process for TORCH. I encourage you to work with your
district to submit a proposal (if this kind of hard, innovative work
interests you).
To assist in preparing proposals, Tracey Gratto and John Sumpter's TORCH
plan is now available from the ESI97 home page, or directly at
http://www.woodrow.org/teachers/es/institutes/1997/43/outreach.html

Other plans will be published as they are completed. Please check them
out and don't forget to ask questions.
Thanks,
Mary
