I'm sorry that you are disappointed in the reduced role that GIS will
probably play in this summer's institute, as compared to our earlier plans.
Our principal faculty member who was to deliver most of the GIS workshops
was unable to attend for more than one day. Several other faculty members
(myself included) have more-than-a-passing knowledge of GIS,. however (I,
for example spent several years working with ARC/INFO when I was the the
U.S. Geological Survey to produce a complex map showing maximum burial
temperatures of rocks in Alaska). There will be opportunity to use
ARC/VIEW, and if you would like to explore it's capabilities with your own
data sets by all means bring them along; we'll try to help you as needed.
Unfortunately, however, because of faculty committments GIS is playing a
smaller role than we had initially hoped...
Mark
