Hi!! We are Melanie Hester and Cyndi Knight from Poinciana High School in
sunny Central Florida. I would first like to inform you that our e-mail at
school DOES NOT WORK!! The update area will not let me change my address
because it
contains spaces... so please e-mail me (Cyndi) at Lop Ear
X3@aol.com...Thanks..

Melanie and I are interested in topics concerning salt water intrusion,
exotic aquatic species (hydrilla in particular) effects of urbanization and
the loss of prime farmland. These are of particular interest to us because
our school is located 20 minutes south of the Walt Disney World property.
Urbanization encroachment is a way of live down here - with "native" Florida
disapearring on a daily basis. We also have a strong interest in soil
erosion and runoff in watersheds under diverse land uses - again the idea of
agricultrual vs. suburbanization. We would like to have a project that works
in connection with the South Florida Water Management District and the
Kissimme River Project. We are already a GLOBE school who is on line for
water and soil testing.

A special HI!! goes out to Team #2 from Stockton, Ca. concerning the
possibility of working as a bi-coastal group so that our kids could share
data acrooss the country.

Melanie and I are both at the same location...I primarily teach 9th grade
Earth Science (regular and honors) and my kids filter into her classes which
are: Honors Biology/A&P/D.E. Bio... We hope that the students who start the
program with me will continue it with her. We are a new and growing school
and will be graduating our third class this year. Our county/school district
is one of the fasted growing areas in the country. This is why we are so
interested in the effects of this growth on our environment.

We look forward to meeting all of you this summer!!!
