RECAP THE PAST
... So far we have given the students a lot of information to get started on their naturescaping and zeriscaping projects. The students have the buy in because they are researching and determining the plants and animals they feel are a necessary part of their project. They will have been working steadily for the better part of the year to determine what an ecosystem consists of and what makes the project so valuable. Now they will put their research together to implement the naturescape and zeriscape to their designated lots. The students will have been communicating via the Internet and e-mail with their collaborating school. The students will also help to make the community aware of their project and get the support and (hopefully) donations from the community. The students will also get the opportunity to take field trips to nurseries, gardens, wildlife agencies and areas where nature and/or xeriscaping are used. We also plan to bring in landscape architechs and horticulturalist. Our overall goal is to get the buy in from the other departments so that the project can be integrated throughout the curriculum. We have found this integration naturally occurs, not only with the study of materials but also throughout the TAAS and TEKS standards.
