Basic instructions for For logging onto the Networked Macintoshes
at Princeton.edu
Logging On to the Network from a Macintosh
1. Pull down the apple menu
(Move your mouse pointer to the rainbow apple icon at
the extreme left of the top menu bar, hold down the mouse button a menu
should appear below the apple.
2. Select the "chooser" option
(Still holding your mouse button, drag the mouse downward
until the word "Chooser" is highlighted then release the mouse button)
3. The Chooser will open with three separate windows as shown
below.

Select the Appleshare icon by clicking on it.

Scroll the AppleTalk zone window until you see "PU_CIT_Services"
and click on that zone.

Select the "phoenix" file server in the third zone.

Lastly click on the "OK" button.

Once you have clicked on the ok button, the next window will
appear.
a. Delete the user name that appears and enter your
own
(Point to the immediate left of the word you wish to delete,
hold down the mouse button and pull across the word to the right. This
should highlight the whole word. Hit the delete key and type your username—do
not add the @princeton.edu at the end.)
b. Enter your password in that blank---Do not type in
any spaces or hyphens.

Click on the "Connect" button.
5. The Following window will now appear. Click the "OK"
button. Upon your successful login, the macfiles icon will appear on your
desktop.
6. You may wish to close the "chooser" window at this
time—Simply click on the close box in the top left corner of the chooser
window.
Logging Off of the Network from a Macintosh
-
Quit all applications.
-
Drag the MacFiles icon into the trash bin. This ends your
macintosh session.
(Just in case)
Logging On to the Network from a PC
-
Press and hold down the "ctrl" and the "alt" keys simultaneously.

Hit the "delete" key while still depressing the ctrl and
alt keys.

A login window will open.
a. type in your username exactly as it is given to you
on your list—Do Not type in the @princeton.edu portion.
b. Enter your password in that blank---Do not type in
the spaces or the hyphens.
c. Click on the "Login" button.
d. Wait. The machine will whir and click. Eventually,
you’ll be able to use the applications that appear on the desktop.
Logging Off of the Network from a PC
1. Press and hold down the "ctrl" and the "alt" keys simultaneously.
2. Hit the "delete" key while still depressing the ctrl
and alt keys.
3. A logout window will open. Click on "Logoff"
4. When asked if you’re sure, click "yes".
