and Water Bath
If access to CBLs and probes is limited or unavailable, the respirometers
may be set up in water baths with the pipettes submerged. As the
pressure changes within the flask due to the uptake of oxygen from the
internal atmosphere, water is displaced into the pipette. The mLs
of oxygen consumed corresponds to the mLs of water entering the pipette.
In this system, the pipettes must be complete submerged. Metal washers
may be placed on the pipettes to keep them beneath the water's surface.
