Summary Abstract:
The traditional flipping of coins and poker chips in an introductory presentation on genetics is sufficiently abstract as to lose many beginning students. They find it difficult to make the connection between the genes on the chromosomes and the objects they are manipulating.
The following genetic simulation has proven to be less abstract, more understandable, more interesting, and, finally, quite enjoyable for the students and teacher alike. Gametogenesis followed by fertilization using model chromosomes will give rise to a totally unique human baby with over twenty genotypes. These genotypes are converted into various phenotypes during embryogenesis
