REGENERATION OF THE VENTRAL NERVE CORD IN THE REDWORM EISENIA FOETIDA
Carol Bernon
Overview
The small redworm Eisenia foetida regenerates rapidly and, unlike the more commonly used Lumbricus, it is easily cultured in the lab. In this activity, students have the opportunity to explore and make predictions about the relationship between impulse conduction through the giant fibers of the ventral nerve cord (VNC) and the effect of transection on nerve cord function and recovery.
