Carolina has a Tadpole Metamorphosis Set that shows how metamorphic rate is increased by exposure to thyroxine.
This kit has students prepare different dilutions of the thyroxine and then, in groups, set up cultures with tadpoles, exposing different cups to different dilutions. The exercise can be stopped at any time but it is suggested that it be continued until the tadpoles have completed metamorphosis. Mortality rates of the thyroxine treated groups may be hight the last few days as the tadpoles become less tolerant of the chemical. The kit includes enough material for 32 tadpoles and comes with 16 culture bowls, thryoxine, 1% NaOh, dropping bottle, net, tadpole food, and instructions. The cost of the kit is $28.50 without tadpoles (in case you already have some) and $59.95 with 32 Tadpoles.
