Plague of Frogs Unit
1. Study Guide/Quizzes: Will serve as a directed reading guide. (Worksheet)
2. Reading Journal: Will enable students to take notes about the reading and promote reading comprehension.
3. Bioethics Essay: (Persuasive Essay) Genetic Engineering/Animal Testing/Use of Natural Resources Can be used to lead to a class discussion/debate.
4. Historical Research: (Research paper) on Extinct/Endangered Animal (i.e. Golden Toad, Passenger Pigeon)
5. Ecological Plot Study: (Long term lab activity/study) Establish baselines and track (GPS/GIS?) biodiversity in selected plot of land. Water Testing, Soil Sampling, Simpson’s Index
6. Co-curricular English/Science: (Analyzing Literature) Student must find and analyze a quote or poem that represents or discusses biodiversity issues.
7. Co-curricular Future Careers Assignment: (Career Studies Presentation) Student will research a specific science career and make a presentation to the class. (i.e. EPA agent, health department employee)
8. Case Study (Scientific Method): (Lab activity) CDC Legionella activity.
9. Web quest: (activity) Students will search for background research, multimedia, (videos, songs) on amphibian decline and its impact.
10. Summary Essay: (Informative/Editorial Essay) Students will devise an action plan and elaborate on the global impact of this issue and where we go from here.
