I, Karen Townsend, am 48 years old and am married
to Steven Gaston. (Steven works out of our home as an investor in the
stock market.) I received both my Bachelor and Master's Degree from the
University of Wisconsin at Madison where I majored in Special Education.
I completed additional post-graduate work at John Hopkins in Baltimore, MD and
at the University of Colorado at Denver, CO. I have taught all age
groups and disabilities in Special Education. I began my teaching career
in Wisconsin. I than moved to Colorado than on to Baltimore, MD and
finally back to Colorado. Colorado is certainly a state that I enoy
living and working in.
A few years ago I decided that I would like to teach regular education at the High School. After further investigation, I found that Math and Science teachers were (and certainly still are) always in demand. I took additional course work in the area of science. For the past four years my teaching assignments have included Biology for the college-bound student as well as a Fundamental Biology Course for the Special Education student. During the past two years I have been responsible for the development of a Sheltered Biology class for the English as a Second Language (ESL) learner. I am constantly on the "look-out" for additional courses and learning opportunities to enhance my teaching. |
