A Massachusetts native, Brian survived the rigors of life growing up in southeastern Mass. complete with high school sports to attend Northeastern University for three years where he studied psychology & history.  However, it was apparent that science was his calling and after transferring to the University of Massachusetts, he completed a bachelor's degree in geology.  As a temporary respite he went into teaching at a private boarding school for "just a few years". Twenty years later he is currently the science chair at the New Jewish High School, a new Jewish day school where he has designed the science curriculum.

After completing his masters in education in 1984, he has been involved in numerous curriculum initiatives including research opportunities in astronomy  in Greenbank, WV, and Global Sciences curriculum through Lawrence Institute of Science in Berkeley, CA. and the space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, MD.  His present initiatives include working with the American Association of Variable Star Observer to implement their hands-on Astrophysics curriculum and creating a consortium of high schools who do research in astronomy.
