My name is Mario Godoy-Gonzalez. I was born
in Arica, Chile almost forty-two years ago. I have always liked
languages, so I came to the United States as an exchange student in
1975. I went to college with the idea of becoming an English as a
Foreign Language teacher (TEFL) as my main goal. That was twenty two
years ago. I have been teaching since 1984. In 1993 I came back to
the United States as a visiting teacher, and the Royal School District in
Washington State hired me as its ESL/Bilingual teacher for high school.
Since 1995 I have participated in several conferences and workshops to improve
my knowledge of science to better serve my Hispanic students.
Besides my job as a teacher, I coach Girls' and Boys' Soccer; I'm a Webelos Scout Leader; the Royal Education Association's treasurer; a member of the Central Washington and National Writing Projects; a member of the Washington State Hispanic Educators Think Tank among other activities.... As one of the few Hispanic people with a college degree in town, I like representing "mi raza". I love my family, and really appreciate their support and understanding for the countless hours I spend away from home. |
