Microbial Bioremediation
This lab was designed to provide a method of inquiry into microbial bioremediation which is a pertinent issue in our lives. This lab model allows students the opportunity to both learn and experience the scientific method. Various environmental samples were tested using a hydrocarbon medium to determine which location would provide the ideal source for bioremedial microorganisms.
Hydrocarbon mediums included motor oil, para-dichlorobenzene and mineral oil. All mediums included a nitrogen and phosphorus source to stimulate bacterial growth, to simulate environmentally damaging oil spill.
