A Field Trip to Mercer Lake

The group took a trip to examine the plankton community of Mercer Lake.

Young looking for new organisms. The S-Shaped structure is made up of 2 Closterium.
Top center structure is a Ceratium. The left hand of center is a species if Asterionella, which is a freshwater diatom, with the cells making up the spokes of the wheel. Another view of species of Ceratium.
To the far right of center is a grouping of Fragilaria, a type of freshwater diatom. The triangular arrangement of algae cells in the center is Pediastrum.

All specimen photos are taken with a digital camera attached to a microscope.
