A service of the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation (WWNFF)
1. On July 6th, New Jersey District 12 Congressman Rush Holt will come to
the Princeton Environmental Institute on the Princeton University campus to
meet with participants in the 1999 CORE Biology and Environmental Science
Institutes. Previously assistant director of the Princeton Plasma Physics
Lab, and also a former classroom teacher himself, Holt will share his
knowledge of science education and reform from a federal government
perspective with the 88 teachers attending this year's Institutes.
2. Extensive information on our 1999 CORE Institutes, including schedules,
faculty, participants, and curricula is now available at
http://www.woodrow.org/teachers/ <http://www.woodrow.org/teachers/> in the
box headed "LPT News." New information is constantly being added as the
sites evolve through the efforts of participants and faculty. Also available
is information on our upcoming Biodiversity Commuter Institute in New York
City, to be presented in collaboration with Pace University, the New York
City Board of Education, the American Museum of Natural History, and the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
3. Awards and Honors
* Bill Bleam, CI85, recently received one of the 100 Tandy/Radio Shack
national awards for science teaching.
* Michelle Crockett, MI91, recently completed her PhD and has been hired as
an Assistant Professor at the University of Southern California, Rossier
School of Education, Division of Learning and Instruction, where she will
head the math education program.
* Judy Schmidt, PI88, received the Presidential Award for Excellence in
Science Teaching for 1998.
