1. CORE Institute participants for summer 1999 have been selected!
*Forty teachers will come to Princeton to study biodiversity with scientists
from Pace University, the CDC, and the American Museum of Natural History.
*Fifty-four teachers will travel to Costa Rica to study global change and
biodiversity at three different Organization for Tropical Studies biological
field stations.
*Fifty+ teachers will come to Princeton University to study global change
and its effects with scientists from the Princeton Environmental Institute,
the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Lab, and Oregon, Princeton, Rutgers, and
Washington State Universities.
2. We're working with the Reading and Writing Project at Teachers' College,
Columbia University to develop a two-year program. Teacher-educators will
learn the approaches and philosophy behind the practices adopted by more
than ninety New York City public schools. Let's hope we get the grant!

4. Updates
*Sonya Fidler (HI 93) has spent this past year working in Choices for the
21st Century, Watson Institute of International Studies, Brown University.
She was also Lead Teacher for Nebraska's Capitol Forum, a state wide civics
simulation that culminated with the students gathering at the state capitol
on March 26th and discussing foreign policy on a video link with Senator
Robert Kerrey in Washington.
